Ever heard of underwater rugby?

You're in the right place to learn more! Our team, the Tallahassee Tarpon, is one of three co-ed recreational clubs in Florida. We hope to encourage more people to check out this unique sport and join the growing underwater rugby (UWR) community. Come join one of the first generations of UWR players in the United States!

What is UWR?

What is UWR?

UWR is a completely 3-D sport, where two teams of six players each attempt to score a goal in underwater baskets. UWR is full-contact, meaning that players can grapple for the ball. Our goals are weighted at the bottom of a 10-13 foot pool, and the ball is filled with saltwater so that it is slightly more dense than the water.

Curious about our schedule, competitions, or membership options?

01

Practice schedule

Mondays and Thursdays from 6-7:30pm at the FAMU pool. Details about parking and location can be found under the "Contact" tab. Our practices consist of a swimming warm-up, technique activities, and of course, playing UWR!

02

Competitions

Competitive? Prefer more casual recreation? We have you covered! Whether you enjoy competing or would rather support your teammates from afar, Tallahassee Tarpon is flexible to support your goals. Team members traveled to the 2021 national UWR tournament in Denver, CO and we hope to continue providing voluntary opportunities for competition in the future. Regardless of your competitive nature, YOU can be an asset to our team!

03

Membership Options

Prospective members of the club are welcome to join us for free to try out the sport and meet our team! We will initially provide all equipment (snorkel, caps, mask, and fins), but we ask our long term members to purchase their own when possible. Should you decide to become a member, we have annual dues to the Underwater Society of America and club dues at an affordable price. Students pay a discounted rate quarterly.
